“In fact, Maja Mirek dances herself and everyone else to the wall (…) Mirek still smiles even when her magnificent presence staggers for breath as if in a fever”.

my body a stranger that protects me that kills me
The relationship humans have to their body is under a permanent tension: I am my body and I have a body. In having a body, we seem to own it at our disposal - as a powerful medium, as a tool and image, but which can also alienate itself from us. In being a body, we feel our living body in the world - and are existentially at its mercy through its mortality. Based on these double-sidednesses, the Cuban choreographer Maura Morales explores the irrevocable duality of the body in extreme experiences and its significance for encounters with others. In an ecstatic transformation, four dancers empower themselves against the objectification and capitalisation of their female read bodies, play with the blurring of bodily boundaries and release the power of community, in which the individual, vulnerable body shows its political weight.
